What is SEO?
SEO, or search engine optimization, is one way website administrators can improve the position of their site in search engine results. Because an earlier appearance in the list correlates with higher traffic on the site, SEO can mean higher visibility, and for businesses, higher profits. People who Google for information rarely find themselves sifting through the third page of results. Most of us stop skimming after the first page. Am I right? So what good is it to be listed on the second, third, fourth, or fourteenth page of results? The problem is everyone is competing to be on the first page, because that’s how more traffic will be generated. To be competitive, you must focus on search engine optimization, SEO.
So, let’s talk about what it takes to optimize your company’s search engine results. To keep it simple, the more backlinks you have connecting users to your site, the earlier your site will appear in results. Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo have systems that rank websites based on the number of backlinks they have flowing through the web. The more you have, the earlier your site will appear on page results. This is why content marketing is so important. The more content your company churns out, the more backlinks your company generates, and the earlier your company shows up in search results. This is why blogging and social media strategies are key. Unfortunately, many site owners take these avenues for granted, and don’t realize just how important SEO is to their site’s success.
Below are 3 tactics you can start doing today for your site’s SEO success:
1) Generate backlinks – Generating hundreds of thousands of backlinks is vital. And you accomplish this with great content marketing, and by coordinating content with your social media accounts and strategies. An important content marketing strategy is to make sure your site’s link is displayed in your content.
2) Keywords – Search engines spit out results based on keywords used. You must identify the keywords most relevant to your potential customers, and implement them in your content intensively. Furthermore, add keywords to your pages’ meta descriptions.
3) Update your content – Another much underused strategy can be a powerful and easy way to optimize search engine results—updating content. Since most companies don’t make use of this strategy, it could give you an edge. Google announced not too long ago that its algorithms now consider “freshness” of content for site rankings. So, to achieve this “freshness,” update your content. It will pay off and your rankings will improve.
